TO VOLN

OK, OK, da Lug Stonehelmm, brudder O mine, been pesterin me ta scribe
dis here guide fer near a year now. I guess it aboot time I set me
sword doon fer a moment and takes da time ta writes dis oot fer da
big Lug. Oh, an I catch eny O ye callin im a Lug, ye hae me ta
answer ta.......

Da reasons I scribin dis piece O work be simple, I hate a few tings
wit a passion....

1. Gettin whispered to by strangers in TSSW when I kin barely keep
oop wit all da comins and goins meself, mich less see yer name, I nae
mean ta ignore ye, jest I niver seem ta hear ye.....

2. People usin either da Voln net or da Amunet ta beg and whine fer
answers dey should gi on der own as many O us did......

But, as I was helped along dat long hard path meself, I will take da
time at least ta describe da symbols, and gi ye some hints ta help ye
solve some O da puzzles along da way. If ye lookin fer straight
answers to da puzzles, look elsewhere as I will nae gi dose to ye in
dis manner. Ye should earn da rank O Master, nae be handed it on a
platter.

First a few tings aboot da order.

Da order O Voln was founded ages ago by <gasp> Voln himself ta assist
him in da releasin O da trapped souls O da undead inta the lovin
bosom O Lorminstra, so's that they might be judged.

Ta attain rank within da order one must hunt and kill undead. Lots O
em! As ye kill em, ye begin ta gather favor, gi enough favor and ye
will be allowed by da monks ta pass into da next level O da order.
Needless ta say, dis nae a task dat ye kin accomplish O'ernight, ye
want instant mastery O sumptin, join dat udder group......

"But" ye whine ta me "How will I know when I hae enough favor?". Da
answer simple, twixt hunts, ye go to da monastery, to da room behind
da wooden door, kneel and pray. Da Gods will gi ye a vision O divin
in a clear pool and retrieving a coin. When ye gi dat ye be ready fer
da next level, go see da monks. Anything else means GO HUNT MORE!
Nae worry aboot how far or what it means. Anythin boot da coin means
ye nae kilt enough dead!

"But" ye whimper to me, "How many does I hae ta kill ta gi da next
level?". Agin me answer simple, as many as it takes. I nae worried
aboot Same level kills and 1/3 favor or any O dat udder guff and I
Mastered in me 19th season. And yes I hunted more dan da dead, and
Yes, I did use many O me symbols along da way. If ye really curious
and jest hae ta know da formulae fer caculatin favor, go elsewhere as
I nae hae an answer fer ye, nor do I tink ye really need one. Hunt
at or just below or above yer level O da dead and ye will do jest
fine.

"OK" ye sulk, "But where is a good place ta hunt da undead?" ye asks
me (rolls his eyes) Da Graveyard, under da crypt in da Graveyard, da
ledge under da crypt under da Graveyard........Ye startin ta see a
pattern here yet? Also in Darkstone....But I would nae go dere till
ye in yer 30th season or better, and dere scattered pockets O em
throughout da lands, sich as da tree spirits and zombies.

Now dat I hae answered da silliest question hears on a regular basis,
let me gi inta da symbols, and nae whinin dat I nae gae ye clues to
all da tasks fer all da steps. Ye want ta learn em, do em!

 

STEP 1 SYMBOL OF RECOGNITION
Dis symbol allows ye ta recognize udder members O da order, and also
what beasties be undead dat sharin da room wit ye.

 

PRAYING

As ye move along dis walk in Voln, ye might want t' tell if ye be ready t' move along to the next step. Ye go t' da meditation chamber n' pray. Ye'll get a vision that'll give ye a hint on da progress ye have made along dis journey.

 

STEP 2 SYMBOL OF BLESSING
Dis symbols will let ye bless yer own Non-Magical weapon. Ye hae ta
hae it in yer hand ta bless it. Blessin gi ye 3 X yer level in swings

 

STEP 3 SYMBOL OF THOUGHT
Dis gi ye da infamous Voln Net. Be forewarned dat unlike da Amunet,
ye kin nae see yer own thoughts.

 

STEP 4 SYMBOL OF RECOVERY
Dis one let ye recover 10 HP per use. Helpful on occasion, nae RT
like ye hae wit herbs.

 

STEP 5 SYMBOL OF COURAGE
Dis symbol adds 1 to yer AS fer each step ye hae, it lasts but a
short while.

 

STEP 6 SYMBOL OF PROTECTION
Dis symbol adds 1 to yer DS fer each step ye hae, it lasts but a
short while.

 

STEP 7 CHARL'S THROW
Dis be da first O da Voln-Fu movements. Ye must be in guarded or
higher stance ta use dis move. It do but wee damage, but it do put
da beastie on da ground so's ye kin hit it easier. Ye kin nae use da
move on a beast dat is already prone. Both hands hae ta be empty fer
dis move.
HINT: Any coral works.

 

STEP 8 KAI'S PUNCH
Da second O da deadly Voln-Fu moves. Agin ye must be in guarded
stance or higher, and yer right fist must be free, so ye kin use yer
shield. Ye kin crit da beasts wi dis move.

 

STEP 9 PHOEN'S KICK
Da third O da Voln-Fu moves. Agin ye kin hae a shield oot, and ye
moost be in stance guarded or higher. Ye kin crit da beasties wit
dis move.
HINT: Dere a reason fer da lamp near da monk.
HINT: Dere nae any rooms ye need on da glacier, look elsewhere.
HINT: A gold ring KIN help wit dis task.

 

STEP 10 SYMBOL OF CALMING
Dis symbol a wee harder fer warriors and rogues ta use as it calls on
yer CS as if it were a spell. It affects undead and possibly udder
players in da room wit ye.
HINT: Any healing herb works.

 

STEP 11 SYMBOL OF SLEEP
Allows ye ta let da beasties gi a well deserved nap afor ye send em
off ta dere eternal rest. It can sleep players as well.
HINT: Dere a waterfall high in da hills.....

 

STEP 12 SYMBOL OF TURNING
Dis one woiks a lot like da ranger spell O da same name, it will make
da beasties flee ye, If ye luck or good, it may e'en kill da beast.
HINT: Rhoan's grave be well to the SW O da burial mound.

 

STEP 13 SYMBOL OF MANA
Dis spell pump 50 mana back inta yer system, be warned dat it will
cost ye a deed ta use it.
HINT: Nae be afraid O gettin wet, empaths be near if ye catch cold.

 

STEP 14 SYMBOL OF SIGHT
Dis works a lot like da Locate spell, but it be limited to members O
Voln only. Ye is also limited by da distance involved.

 

STEP 15 SYMBOL OF HOLINESS
Now ye hae become yer own Pure Potion, wit da same limitations, ye
kin bless magical metals so long as dey nae hae special crits. Agin,
ye must hae da weapon in yer hand, da bless lasts fer 4X da blessers
level.
HINT: You know how ta go Gnome......

 

STEP 16 SYMBOL OF SUBMISSION
Dis symbol is supposed ta make a hostile beastie non aggressive. I
hae never met anyone dat hae used it, least nae one still aboot ta
tell O it at least....
HINT: Never leave afore da monk done spaekin

 

STEP 17 SYMBOL OF RESTORATION
Dis symbol allows ye ta regain HP's by da bucketful.

 

STEP 18 SYMBOL OF NEED
OK, so ye messed oop, now ye kin really use dis Symbol ta let every
member O da order know jest HOW bad ye messed oop. Ye kin e'en send
it after yer carcass hae stopped breathin. Dis a helpful sign fer
da solo hunter, or fer da small party wi verra foul luck. Doan worry
to mooch, One O yer brudders or sisters will arrive and drag ye ta a
sanctuary.
HINT: Nae fishin fer more clues.

 

STEP 19 SYMBOL OF RETRIBUTION
OK, ye used da Symbol O Need and da beasties still thick aboot yer
bleedin, soon ta be departed carcass. Ye want ta make it safe fer da
folks comin ta help ye, or ye jest want revenge. Dis be da symbol
fer ye! Concentrate on it, and a wave O damage will flow from ye
inta da undead beasties, possibly attackin multiple opponents. Ye
kin use dis one alive as well, but why?

 

STEP 20 CHARL'S THROW 2
An even more effective use O da Voln-Fu move ye learned in Step 7.
Dis one be even better odds O knockin da beast to da seat O its pants
(er whatever it hae on). It also causes a wee more concussion damage
on landin.
HINT: Ye may hae ta wait as da tide turns.

 

STEP 21 KAI'S PUNCH 2
E'en greater damage for an already vicious punch! Increases yer odds
O a crit as well.
HINT: Ye moost travel deep inta Danjir fer dis one friend.

 

STEP 22 PHOEN'S KICK 2
What kin ye say when yer kick turns da beasties brains int jelly
except pass da mana bread? Again, more damage and increased crits.

 

STEP 23 SYMBOL OF PRESERVATION
Dis one allows ye ta keep yer own soul attached to yer body after ye
goofed oop. I nae ken fer how long as I nae hae ever used it.
Luckily I hae friends nearby when me makes dose killin errors.
HINT: Yea, a babe shall lead them.

 

STEP 24 SYMBOL OF DREAMS
Dis symbol allows ye ta put yerself inta a trance, dat means ye gi
back HP's, mana, and clear yer head much faster dan normal. Ye kin
nae move aboot, nor kin any touch ye as it twill ruin yer
concentration, but ye kin still talk. pity that....
HINT: I have been to the mountaintop!

 

STEP 25 SYMBOL OF RETURN
Dis is da infamous one way Voln fog, wit dis ye kin fog yerself and
yer party back to da gates O Voln. Handy ta hae during invasions, or
when tings go verra bad. Dere be limits though, ye kin nae fog from
under da crypt, da ledge, Terras, or Darkstone.
HINT: History repeats itself.

 

STEP 26 SYMBOL OF INVITATION
Now go forth and assist da old warrior in buildin da ranks O da order
by invitin young souls ta jin oop! Use care in who ye invite though,
it kin reflect directly back at ye.
HINT: Oh I know, twas a long hard road.

 

OK, ye did one O da hardest tings in da lands, ye walked da full
circuit and now yer a Master. Congratulations!

"But" ye agin whine ta me, "What does all dis do fer me?" Da answer
be, Odder dan da symbols, nae much. If ye joined da order fer
personal power and self promotion den I suggest ye go see da folk in
da bathroom dere ad da bathhouse, dat dere kind O thing.

As fer what ye SHOULD do, help others as da Masters afore ye hae
helped ye, and nae whine aboot gitin no help from da Masters, what do
ya tink dis is? Chopped rolton?

Also, dere is 3 items in da Masters area in da monastery, da first be
a note from one O our brothers, I will let ye read dat fer yerself.

Da second be a globe, touch it and it will spin, each spin represents
roughly 10 favor. It is a simple way ta test yer supply O blessins,
fogs etc. fer yerself, rather than guessin.

Lastly is da tapestry. When ye look at it ye see a scene, if ye rub
it, den look agin, the scene changes, when ye gi da scene ye want, ye
simply GO TAP ta be instantly transported to dat scene. It a free
form of transportation, and save riskin normal entry ta Darkstone, as
well as other places.
